Save A Species Corporation is a conservation organzation. We focus on animals that are endangered or critically endangered, including the rare Ivory-Billed Woodpecker. This blog currently gives updates on the search for the Ivory-bill in Arkansas. Vistitors are encouraged to pass along their experiences in conservation.
I'm a little confused since immature Red-Headeds DON'T have red heads (they're quite dull), but I presume you're implying that the original sighting of 2 birds consisted of one adult and one immature bird??? (or you saw a bird in transition, with partial red head?)
ReplyDelete...and on a sidenote, multiple cavities in a single tree is quite characteristic of Pileateds, but would be unusual for a IBWO.
I'm aware immature red-heads don't have a red-head. The plumage on the back in my picture is juvenile-like, but the head is red, which is one of the reasons I originally thought it was just a pattern in the leaves.
ReplyDeleteThe holes probably ARE Pileateds. But IBWOs did sometimes do multiple ROOST holes in the same tree.
